Economic Hard Times My Ass!
it seems lately that everyone is feeling the crunch of the economic hard times that we are going through right now. More and more people are losing their jobs, starting over and or losing everything. I have to vent here because it seems that people are in the dark at what it takes to run their businesses.
My husband is a telemarketing sales trainer and manager for a magazine company. Everyday his sales floor makes money. They sell $900 magazine packages to customers all day long. What this tells me is people still have money to throw away. So why is it that business owners can’t seem to make the connection between an investment in their business and throwing their money away?
I recently have had a bunch of people contact me for SEO work. The funny thing is they have absolutely no money so they say. They want to work for trade or believe it or not say they only have a $150 budget for a website with over 700 pages. They say I want to compete with my top competitors. “I want to bring up my traffic from 4000 visitors a month to 4,000,000 by october. We need your help but all we can pay is $150 a month” Get the funk outta here. Are you serious!?!
My favorite this month was I need you to complete a full optimization of my 25 page website and I can pay you $1000 in portraits. Do what now!?! What am I going to do with $1000 in portraits? Come on business owners! Really, this is what it’s come too? If people can buy $900.00 in magazine subscriptions, which seems seriously unnecessary, then why can’t people who run a business see the value in investing in their business.
You can’t expect to compete with number 1 rankings on a shoe string budget and you can’t expect to get quality SEO work for $1000 in portraits. Especially when regular people are buying stupid magazine subscriptions for an outrageous price.
Business owners do yourself a favor and invest in your business wisely. Don’t try to cut corners and be cheap because just like the old adage says… YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!!
